Bellydancing is one of the hottest things you can do for yourself – put on your coin belt, take some classes and get shimmying! Belly dance is good exercise that isn’t boring like riding a treadmill and the movements are spiritual and life affirming – anyone who has tried it knows. That’s why I, Tamira, have been bellydancing for over 10 years and started this website to provide you bellydance props – because not only is bellydance fun, it can change your life.
Some of you are already excellent bellydancers, but you’re looking for something to add excitement to your performance. Bellydance Props is the place to find that opulent Balady Scimitar that will stun your audience with that “death defying” edge. If you desire more of the lovely sensual effect, try out some belly dance veils in colors and designs that will mesmerize your audience into adoration or professional Isis wings that will turn you into a beautiful creature from a fairytale.
The creative possibilities are endless. If you want to focus on ethnic or folkloric differences, add some Turkish flair to your belly dance with zills or better known as finger cymbols. These will show off your expert coordination or try a breathtaking Egyptian wedding belly dance candelabra or "shemedan" that lights up the night and keeps everyone holding their breath that your candles won’t fall.

Another show stopper is balancing a bellydance tray on your head with candles, a coffee service or something entirely unique like a birthday cake for a birthday party or anniversary! Balancing the tray filled with wares will impress everyone with your ability to balance with poise and grace. For an original Egyptian folkloric/theatrical approach, try performing the Maleya Luff, a light-hearted tradition introduced by Mahmoud Reda.
One very unique prop that has been added to bellydance with the fusion movements that are being incorporated in the US are bellydance fans. The bellydance fan can add an Asian, Spanish or Fantasy influence to your dance and can be used not only to flirt with your audience, but also to mystify them with clever fan poses.
A very popular prop for groups is the belly dance cane or stick, When a whole troupe moves in tandem with the bellydance cane, it is quite impressive – from classic Turkish and Egyptian to Ghawazi and Saidi styles, the cane is a very popular and versatile bellydance prop in the way it is used throughout North African and the Middle East. Email me about group discounts when ordering ten or more bellydance canes.
Whatever prop you choose, I have found that after learning to dance with a certain prop, my dancing not only improved in poise and balance, but I also learned a lot of new moves with each prop. So, whether you are a beginner or an accomplished bellydancer, props are a fun part of bellydance and worth a try. If you feel lost, then check out a bellydance prop video from Princess Fahrana, Aisha or Nourhan Sharif.

| DID YOU KNOW...
Bellydance with a sword is rarely performed in the Middle East and North Africa. Bellydancing with a sword is depicted in at least one historical painting by Gerome in 1870. Although, there is no evidence that the sword was a common prop used by Mid-East and N. African dancers in the past. In 1968, Jamilla Salimpour reinacted a dance from the painting by Gerome in Jamilla's famous Bal Anat Renaissance Faire production in San Francisco. The performer Rhea was the sword dancer in that show. Since then, sword dancing has been widely popular as a prop, used mainly in the US.
