For instance, zills or finger cymbols help will help with learning rhythms, Isis wings will increase stamina, the shemedan and the bellydance sword give poise, the bellydance veil teaches grace and beauty, and the cane dancing will show you how to laugh with yourself.

The Props can also teach us the history of this ancient artform called bellydance in the US. It is very important to be connected to bellydance's history to understand its roots and express it with the same power that our bellydance ancestors did. Like artifacts, the various bellydance props have stories behind them, some known and some unknown. For instance, the bellydance veil is mostly a US prop; although, it is used by some Mid-Easterners to enter the stage. And, the bellydance candelabra or shemedan has its roots in the traditional Egyptian wedding zeffa performed with bellydancer and musicians. The bellydancer will get the wedding couple up to dance together and then will perform with candelabra to zeffa music, including floorwork, for the couple and the guests.
